The artist Michael Milburn Foster
came to Web & Flow because he needed a portfolio
website to show off various collections of his
oils-on-canvas and drawings, all depicting
the human figure in motion.
We were asked to display the artworks as large as possible
with an absolute minimum of 'website' surrounding them, to
create the sensation of walking through an actual art gallery.
The artworks
are enlarged automatically,
redrawing the page after a window is resized
(click here and press F11 after the artwork has loaded).
The website surrounding the art works is non-existent but for
a miniscule menu at the very top (which may be temporarily
hidden by the visitor), 'Milburn Foster' vertically on the very left,
and two small arrows that facilitate the browsing through the collections.
Whilst the visitor is looking at an artwork,
the next artwork in the sequence is being preloaded,
thus considerably speeding up
the whole experience of walking through the gallery.
We are now almost finished with our own
interactive
version of this unique portfolio website.
This will allow artists to upload their photographs to their own
art gallery exhibitions (presented just like
MilburnFoster.com),
organising the artworks in collections
to be shown in various rooms.
